Chicco Urban Stroller Review

Here is a complete Chicco Urban stroller review!

At first glance, the Chicco Urban stroller looked like it had a lot to offer. It had the 6 modes as advertised, was carry-cot ready, car seat compatible, and had a bunch of features that made it seem quite promising. But after diving a bit deeper, and reviewing the stroller first-hand it seemed to have a few too many issues that sadly let it fall into the “not really recommended” category – in my opinion. If you’re looking for a modular/convertible stroller, I’d rather recommend the Evenflo Pivot Modular stroller (a cheap option), or the Baby Jogger City Select (the luxury option)..

However, to have a closer look at the stroller and know exactly what’s in store for you if you purchase it, here is a full review of the Chicco Urban stroller. It includes all you need to know about the stroller before making your purchase choice.

YSG Rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars (3.2 / 5)

Price: $$$

Stroller Weight: 26 lbs

Chicco Urban Stroller Features

The Chicco Urban stroller is popular for having 6 different modes/configurations. Its stroller seat can be configured to either be forward facing or backward facing, you can replace the stroller seat with a car seat which can also be forward or backwards facing. And lastly, you can convert the stroller seat to a carrycot which can also be forward facing or backwards facing. These are the 6 modes as advertised – check out the demo below for a clearer picture.

The stroller features are as listed below:

Car Seat Compatible: The stroller includes a car seat adapter that allows you to attach a car seat by simply clicking it in. You won’t have to wake up your sleeping baby if you need to switch to a stroller. Note: the car seat is sold separately.

Carrycot/Newborn Stroller: The stroller seat can be transformed into a carrycot making it great for carrying your newborn, and once your baby is older, you can switch back to the stroller seat mode. This is a cool feature that saves you the trouble of buying a separate carrycot for your newborn. The stroller seat can carry a toddler of up to 50 lbs.

Adjustable Handlebar Height: The stroller comes with an adjustable handlebar, that allows you to adjust the stroller handle to suit a shorter or taller parent.

Lockable Swiveling Front-Wheels: This feature makes the stroller easier to maneuver. Lets you round those corners more easily.

All Wheels Suspension System: In addition to being easy to maneuver, the stroller suspension system aims to provide a smooth and bump-free ride for you and your baby.

Toe-Tap Brakes: The stroller brakes can be activated with a simple toe tap at the rear of the stroller. This makes the stroller brakes easier to access which increases stroller safety.

3-Panel Extendable Canopy: The stroller has a large extendable canopy that helps to protect your child from harsh weather, or from too much sunlight during your time outdoors.

Rear-Accessible Stroller Basket: This stroller comes with a large storage basket to help with storing your on-the-go items. It’s big enough to hold items like diapers, bottles, wipes, etc. On the down side, the stroller seat is quite low, it makes it a bit difficult to reach into the stroller. This could be quite inconvenient for some people.

Multi-Position Recline: The stroller seat is able to recline into multiple positions, allowing your kid to be more comfortable especially during long trips. Your kid can choose to sit up or lay back when they get tired.

5-Point Harness: In terms of safety, the stroller has a 5-point harness that helps to keep your baby safely strapped into the stroller seat.

Detachable Arm Bar and Leg Rest: The stroller includes a detachable arm bar and leg rest for extra support and comfort for your baby.

Stroller Colors: The Chicco Urban stroller currently has two color options – Minerale & Violetta. Each stroller comes with the exact same feature, so you have the choice to pick what color works best for you.

That’s it for all the features of the Chicco Urban stroller. You can tell that the stroller includes quite a number of great features. Would be great if these features worked great as advertised. In the sections below, I will discuss the Pros and Cons I discovered about the stroller, and also show an overview of the likes and dislikes based on parent reviews and product feedback.

Pros:

  • Stroller seat can be converted into a carrycot for newborns
  • Car seat adapters are included in the price
  • Adjustable handlebar height
  • All-wheel suspension system
  • Toe-tap brakes for easy parking

Cons:

  • Stroller to heavy. At 26 lbs, the stroller is quite heavy for a single stroller. Adding a toddlers weight of 50 lbs brings the stroller to 76 lbs. This would be quite heavy especially for small moms/parents.
  • Difficult to fold. The stroller fold can be quite cumbersome as you have to also detach and store the large wheels
  • The stroller fold is quite bulky, making it hard to store or carry around
  • Only compatible with the KeyFit & Fit2 car seats
  • Doesn’t include snack tray
  • Stroller basket can be difficult to access

Chicco Urban Stroller Reviews

After reviewing the Chicco Urban stroller, there were quite a number of Pros that made it a nice stroller to have however, it also had almost an equal number of Cons to counter. And in terms of reviews for parents who purchased the stroller, there were quite a number of parents who weren’t happy with their purchase and gave negative feedback. Here is an overview of the Likes and Dislikes based on the parent feedback.

Likes
  • Stylish design and look
  • Smooth ride on multiple terrain
  • Sturdy and easy to maneuver
  • Adjustable handlebar height
Dislikes
  • Really heavy and bulky
  • Front wheels randomly malfunctions (locks by itself/gets stuck)
  • Can only attach car seat with bulky car seat adapter
  • Stroller basket inaccessible
  • Sometimes difficult to fold and unfold
  • Hard to change between modes
  • Plastic wheels can be squeaky

After analyzing the reviews and feedback for the stroller, I definitely won’t recommend purchasing the Chicco Urban stroller. Quite a number of parents were really disappointed with their purchase. Based on the feedback given, the stroller had way more dislikes than likes. Given that the stroller costs almost $400 I wouldn’t recommend buying a stroller with so many negative reviews when there are other great strollers out there. As mentioned before, if you’re looking for a good quality convertible/modular stroller, you should definitely check out the Evenflo Pivot Modular stroller (a cheap option), or the Baby Jogger City Select (the luxury option).

Conclusion –  Chicco Urban Stroller Review

The Chicco Urban would be a great stroller if most of the above issues could be resolved. But sadly, despite having a lot of great features, the issues still make it a difficult stroller to use and manage. If you’d prefer something similar but without all the issues, then you should definitely check out the Evenflo Pivot Modular stroller and the Baby Jogger City Select.
