City Select vs City Select Lux

– the complete Baby Jogger City Select vs City Select Lux stroller review!

The City Select and the City Select Lux are both everyday strollers by the top brand Baby Jogger. Both strollers are very similar in terms of features – they are both convertible strollers that can be transformed from single to double strollers for two kids instead of one. They also both have features like – an adjustable handlebar, car seat and bassinet compatibility, and a reversible seat.

Both strollers are very much similar, with the only difference being their fabric texture and quality. The City Select Lux has a nicer fabric compared to the City Select. However, while both strollers have about the same features, the City Select Lux is more expensive and also heavier. This is a downside of the City Select Lux because it feels like you’re getting the same features for a slightly higher price.

This article gives you the full review of both the City Select Lux and City Select strollers. You can make your choice of the two strollers after reviewing both of them!

City Select vs City Select Lux – Affordability

In terms of price, the City Select Lux costs a bit more than the City Select stroller. However, the prices are still pretty decent compared to most luxury style strollers.

They include features you’d normally only get in a luxury style stroller but only cost about half the price. And they cost slightly more than your regular full-size stroller which usually include less features but are cheaper. Both strollers meet somewhere in the middle – the quality and features of a luxury style stroller vs a slightly higher cost than a regular stroller.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Features

Single to Double Convertible Stroller: both the City Select and the City Select Lux are convertible strollers! This means they can be transformed from a single to a double stroller to carry up to two kids. By attaching a second seat to your stroller frame, you can carry a twin or a second child aboard the same stroller. This makes both strollers a great option for growing families as you don’t have to buy a new stroller when expecting another child. Note: the additional stroller seats need to be bought separately!

City Select Stroller Seat

Car Seat Compatible: Both strollers are car seat compatible. You can easily attach any of the Baby Jogger infant car seats to the City Select Lux and City Select stroller frames. They both have an easy click-in feature that allows you to simply click-in the car seats without needing an adapter.

As a bonus, both strollers are also compatible with car seats from other brands! They are compatible with infant car seats from major brands like Britax, Chicco, Nuna, and Maxi Cosi. You only need to purchase a car seat adapter, that allows you easily attach the car seat to the stroller frame.

Note: the car seats and car seat adapters have to be purchased separately!

I really find car seat adapters to be a great feature because if you already have a car seat from another brand – as a gift, or from a previous child, you won’t have to buy a new one!

Bassinet Stroller: Apart from being car seat compatible, both strollers are also bassinet compatible! You can easily transform your stroller into a stylish pram for your newborn by attaching the bassinet. And this does not only allow you to carry newborns, it also gives you more options for riding your stroller!

City Select Bassinet

Note: the bassinets are also not included in the price. You’d have to purchase it separately!

Newborn Stroller: Although you cannot directly use the stroller seats for the City Select or City Select Lux for your newborn, you can still safely carry your newborn by replacing the stroller seat with an infant car seat or bassinet. Either of these options allow you to safely carry your newborn aboard the stroller.

Multi-Position Recline and Adjustable Footrest: the stroller seats for both the City Select and City Select Lux can be adjusted into multiple positions. From sitting upright to laying horizontally in an almost flat recline. This full recline option is great and convenient for your kid to take naps.

The strollers also have an adjustable footrest that provides more comfort and room for your baby to rest their legs while sleeping. Strollers without this feature leave your kids legs dangling uncomfortably while they nap or ride the stroller.

5-Point Harness: in terms of safety, both strollers have a 5-point harness system that keeps your baby safely strapped into the stroller seat. As kids tend to move around while you’re not paying full attention, the harness helps to keep them safely strapped in.

Reversible Stroller Seat: lastly, the stroller seats for both the City Select and City Select Lux strollers can be adjusted to be either forward or backwards facing. I like this feature because it gives you even more options for riding your stroller!

And in the double stroller mode, the both strollers also allow the second seat to be adjusted to be either forward or backwards facing.

Stroller Fold: The fold for both strollers are not so compact, but they both have an easy fold feature that lets you fold the stroller pretty quick and easily. Both strollers also require two hands to fold!

Adjustable Handlebar: Both strollers also have a height adjustable handlebar! The handlebars for the City Select and City Select Lux can be adjusted to fit the height of the parent handling the stroller. This is nice for tall and short parents, where you can have the handlebar adjusted to the height of the parent handling the stroller.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Wheels

The City Select and City Lux have nice large all-terrain wheels that give you and your baby a smooth ride over all terrain. The wheels allow you to move easily over grassy terrains and uneven paths. You can take them for walks in the park or to the beach!

In addition, both strollers have lockable swiveling front wheels that help with easy maneuvering and make rounding corners quite easy. And they also have an all-wheel suspension system that helps to prevent your stroller from jiggling about when you move.

The wheel for both strollers help to give you and your baby a nice and smooth ride on any terrain.

Note: contrary to what the brand name might suggest, both strollers are NOT jogging strollers. The wheels are not designed for jogging, only for everyday use.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Weight & Capacity

In terms of weight, the City Select and City Select Lux weigh about the same:

Baby Jogger City Select Stroller Weight: 29.7 lbs

Baby Jogger City Select Lux Stroller Weight: 30.4 lbs

At around 30 lbs each, both strollers are considered quite heavy. Especially for small parents, this could be quite heavy and hard to maneuver.

Lastly, in terms of carrying capacity, the City Select Lux and City Select can only carry up to 45 lbs. This is quite small compared to most full-sized strollers that average at around 50 lbs minimum. This means that both strollers cannot be used for big toddlers. Your baby would have to give up the strollers sooner than later.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Dimensions

Both strollers are quite similar in dimensions:

  • City Select – 43.5″ L x 25.75″ W x 38.5″ H
  • City Select Lux – 46.1″ L x 25.6″ W x 40.8″ H

But when folded, the City Select Lux folds up a bit more compactly, making it easier to store in your car or carry with you.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Basket

In terms of stroller basket size and its carrying capacity, both strollers have a fairly large stroller basket. The baskets have a carrying capacity of up to 45 lbs! You can carry all your on-the-go items without needing a second bag.

City Select vs City Select Lux – Canopy

If you’re looking for a nice large canopy with your stroller, then both strollers are there for you. They both have a large extendable canopy that helps to provide enough cover and protect your kid against harsh weather.

They also both have UPF50, sun-proof canopy that helps protect your kid against harmful UV-rays!

Colors

In terms of variety, both strollers have a few color options you can choose from. The City Select has about 4 main color options – Grey, Blue, Dark Blue and Ocean Blue. And the City Select Lux also has about 4 color options – Grey, Light Grey, Brown and Black. With both strollers, you get to choose a color that’s more to your liking.

Conclusion- City Select vs the City Select Lux

And that’s it for a full City Select vs City Select Lux review! They are both great quality strollers by the brand Baby Jogger however, the City Select Lux is available at a slightly higher price given that they have right about the same features. So I’d recommend that if you do not care a lot about stroller fabric you’d be better off buying the City Select instead of the City Select Lux.
